SALT LAKE CITY—July 29, 2014—MountainWest Capital Network (MWCN) hosted their annual Deal Makers’ Golf Tournament at Thanksgiving Point Golf Course last week to a sold-out crowd of players that included a who’s-who of local businesses, entrepreneurs and investors.
“We were thrilled with the turnout and look forward each year to the golf tournament,” said Reed Chase, an audit partner at Tanner LLC and President of MWCN. “Capital flow is our mission at MWCN, and events like these provide opportunities for everyone involved to build relationships, make new friends across industries and have some fun.”
The Deal Makers’ Golf Tournament was sold out once again, and sponsors had fun with a myriad of contests and raffles. The highlight of the day was Nick Griffiths’ Hole-in-One on the V.L.C.M. sponsored, Par 3, Hole 15. Griffiths’ hit the 166-yard shot and won a $10,000 bike package from Bountiful Bike. It included a road bike, a mountain bike, a rack and more.
“This was my first hole-in-one,” said Griffiths, a Commercial Relationship Manager for Zions Bank. “I wish I could say the shot ended up as planned, which was to draw the ball from the hill off the right of the green (due to back/right pin placement), have it hit before the hole, bounce twice, and land in the cup. This is what went through my mind as I stepped up to the tee box on #15. Let’s just say this was hardly the ball flight, but somehow the ball ended up in the cup. I am still in disbelief.”
The Thanksgiving Point Golf Course is a championship caliber course and the #1 Public Golf Course in the state, according to Golf Digest. The odds of an amateur golfer getting a hole-in-one are 12,500 to 1.
“What a brilliant golf shot by Mr. Nick Griffiths,” said Casey Tanner, an account executive for Trustco Inc. “I’m sure it was a dream come true. As a MountainWest Capital Network Partner it is incredibly exciting that we were able to award Nick with the $10,000 cycling package provided by Bountiful Bicycle. Many thanks to them for putting the package of top-line cycling equipment together, and to everyone at MWCN for allowing us to be a part of this incredible event.”
Tournament attendees enjoyed a variety of extra activities at each hole, including raffles, giveaways, and an “Elevator Pitch” contest from Title Sponsor Springboard5, which highlighted the importance of strong messaging in the success of a company. Nicholas Anderson of WSRP won the $250 gift card for first place, with Tim Provost from Blendtec winning a $100 gift card for second.
“As an entrepreneur and businesswoman, MWCN has always been more than a resource,” said Leslie Norris, CEO of Springboard5. “It’s a true community that extends opportunities in every way an organization needs in order to grow business relationships and long and valuable strategic partnerships. As a board member, the golf tournament is one of my favorite investments every year.”
Next up for MWCN is the Utah 100 Awards Program, which recognizes the 100 Fastest Growing Companies in Utah. To be held on October 21 at the Grand America, the Utah 100 is celebrating its 20th year. Register to attend at mwcn.org.
